We haven’t seen or heard from Mo’Nique since the movie Precious. Last week she finally decided to come out of hiding and speak out on her absence. The Oscar award-winning actress revealed that she had been “blackballed” in the industry because she was difficult to work with, according to Lee Daniels – the creator and executive producer of “Empire.”
Mo”Nique sat with Inside Edition explaining her current state as an actress and even implying that she was suppose to originally play the role of Cookie Lyons in the new hit show Empire. According to her, Lee Daniels offered her the role and even gave her the script:
“When he called me up, he offered me the role in Empire as Cookie. Maybe four days had gone by, and I hadn’t heard anything. So I’m trying to reach out to him to say, what time do I need to be in? Where do I need to be? When he finally returned the call, he says listen, the executives at Fox said that you’re difficult.”
In her defense, Mo’Nique doesn’t feel like she’s difficult to work with, but Daniels think differently. Standing up to his beliefs, he told CNN’s Don Lemon “there were demands that were made from her, on the Precious campaign that everyone knows about that hurt her.”
I think everyone raised eyebrows once Mo’Nique made it very clear she was suppose to Cookie, even Taraji. Taraj P. Henson responded to these allegations on twitter by simply retweeting a few tweets that was in agreeance with her viewpoint, including one from the show’s director, Danny Strong.
To add on, Gabourey Sidibe, Mo’Nique’s co-star in “Precious” also added her two-scents.
Welp. I can’t see anyone else playing Cookie and much respect to Mo’Nique but she couldn’t do it for me. What are your thoughts?
