Nicki Minaj is taking her talents to ABC Family. The iconic rapper is set to executive produce and star in a scripted comedy series based on her upbringing in Queens, New York.
The upcoming project will focus on Minaj’s immigration to New York from Trinidad and her personal and musical evolution that lead her to today’s success. Prior to Nicki Minaj wanted to rap, she initially pursued acting at one of Manhattan’s prestigious schools – LaGuardia High School.
“This is one of the more unique adventures I’ve ever embarked on,” said Minaj. “I couldn’t be more proud and excited to team up with an amazing group of people to give the world something really special.”
The show will be written by Sex Tape screenwriter Kate Angelo and shot this winter in Queens. “Nicki is an international superstar, yet not everyone knows how inspiring and hilarious her true story is, and we can’t wait to share it with the world,” said ABC Family’s EVP Programming and Development Karey Burke. “
