Even with the Empire finale airing last week, the hit show is still finding a way to be the most talked about television series. Recently, nasty rumors were going around about one of the co-stars of the show, actor Malik Yoba, claiming that he had a drug addiction problem and was fired from the show. On the finale, Malik Yoba’s character “Vernon” was killed, and therefore he will no longer be on the show, leaving questions as to why he was cut out of the show so early. I mean it is only the first season.
Well the rumor behind Yoba’s quick exit was that he had been using and abusing drugs on set. The character he played “Vernon” also had a drug issue so the rumors weren’t too far fetched to believe, but the cast and Yoba quickly set that straight. Jussie Smollett and Bryshere Gray (Jamal and Hakeem Lyons on the show) went on The Ricky Smiley show and cleared things up. When asked about the claims Jussie replied “Absolutely not…every rumor that has been written about brother Malik is idiotic and stupid. That man is an upstanding man and we have nothing but love for him….Malik is cool, he’s good people.” Bryshere chimed in saying “I look up to Malik man, he’s a phenomenal actor”.
What does actor Malik Yoba himself have to say about all of this? Well he’s shooting those rumors down and wants an apology from the blogger who started it! He defends himself saying that the rumors are false and any of his cast mates could back him up (as they did). He also said he spent lots of money to find the person who started this and was promised that a retraction from the blogger would be posted.
