Yesterday marked the 14th anniversary of iconic singer, Aaliyah’s death. The late singer died in a plane crash back in 2001. As the world celebrated her life, Janet Jackson, one of Aaliyah’s idols,wrote a note in remembrance of her life.

In 1997, Aaliyah mentioned how much she adored Janet Jackson during an interview with Rosie O’Donnell. “I try to mention her in every interview because I want to meet her and maybe at some point in my career collaborate with her.”
Although the two never got to record together, they did meet. Janet Jackson shared her first memory of meeting baby girl, “This is someone that I had the opportunity of meeting only once in my life because of Missy, and we hung out one night. And I really felt like we were gonna become really good friends. What a sweet girl, and one of the most stunning looking women I have ever seen in my life in person, just absolutely gorgeous.”
