This year at the 2015 BET Honors, music extraordinaire, Kanye West was presented with the Visionary Award by Damon Dash. Despite the moguls beef that dates back almost fifthteen years ago – since Kanye sided with Jay-Z after he left Roc-A-Fella, Dash expressed how he truly felt about the “New Slave” rapper and definitely gave credit where it was due.
Dash still made reference to the drama, saying that he still has issues with West but they’re “emotional”. Nevertheless, he goes on to give Kanye props, stating “my history with Kanye is I didn’t respect him as a rapper because I was around the greatest rappers, but he has courage.” And of course Kanye wouldn’t be Kanye if he didn’t have anything candid to say. He opened his speech and indirectly took a shot a Dash by saying “I think for one of the first times in my life I understand how it feels to be humbled.” Oh, Kanye! He goes on to discuss racism, love vs. separation, slave mentality, black expression and more. He also defended his wife and one of the most famous women in the world, Kim Kardashian, explaining she use to “date BROKE black dudes”, in reference to his iconic lyrics to Gold Digger – “and when you get on he gon leave your ass for a white girl”. But did he take a shot at Ray-J?
Check out the video, which has now gone viral:
Attendees also shared more from his speech on social media. After leaving the stage, Dame, his daughter Ava, and Kanye posted a selfie.
The BET Honors is set to premier on Monday, February 23rd at 9/8c on BET.
