Bill Cosby has been stripped from yet another honorary degree. Brown University snagged Cosby’s doctorate of humane letters, which they presented in 1985. This is the third degree he’s had revoked in less than a week – Fordham and Marquette University also pulled their honorary degrees.
Brown’s president, Christina H. Paxson says that Cosby violated the values of Brown University when he decided to drug numerous women and sexually assault them. “It has become clear, by his own admission in legal depositions that became public this summer, that Mr. Cosby has engaged in conduct with women that is contrary to the values of Brown and the qualities for which he was honored by the University in 1985,” President Christina Paxson wrote.
Cosby has been given honory degrees from as many as 17 other higher-education institutions. Schools such as Boston’s Berklee College of Music and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst — Cosby’s alma mater — have also dropped programs that bore his name due to his sexual assault offense.
Cosby has yet to be charged.
