Last night, it was announced that Miss DC Deshauna Barber is offiically named 2016 Miss USA. 2016 is definitely the year of #BlackGirlMagic. Barber is a native of Columbus, Georgia and she attended Virginia State University-where she majored in business management. She is also an lieutanat in the Army Reserve.
Barber made history as the first Army Reserve to become Miss USA. During the Q&A segmant of the competition, she impressed the judges with her answers. Barber hopes that she will use her platform to inspire women everywhere and be role model to young girls.
Here is her response to a question about women in combat:
“As a woman in the United States Army, I think … we are just as tough as men. As a commander of my unit, I’m powerful, I am dedicated,”
I am proud to say that it is good to see another positive woman conquering the world. We send our congratulations to her!
